New Signs for Sakeji

The senior boys at Sakeji School are to be congratulated for their hard work
in making new signs to direct people to the school. They cut and planed the
planks, designed the sign on paper, transferred the outline to the plank,
and then embedded the lettering with a router, painted the letters, and
finally sanded and varnished the finished product. You can see them putting
up one new sign on a rainy day, happy with the finished product.

Hot Water for the Girls

Can you recognize things in this picture? It is taken at the corner of the
girls’ dorm (used to be boys dorm before 1994) with the wood burning hot
water heater heating the old tank at the top of the building at the top
middle of the picture. The new tank connected to the older solar panels is
in front of it, and then two new sets of solar water heaters on the left. A
great improvement — not only were baths warm, but the girls even had hot
water for washing this morning!

Rain & Water

It almost seems on a rainy day like today that everything is about water.
Most of the morning was a deluge of heavy rain — but as soon as it cleared
the workmen were back at the new project, trying to get hot water to the
girls’ dorm. With Mr. Wideman’s help, the men have put a new hot water tank
on top of the tower at the girls’ dorm, and built a stand to hold two
further sets of solar water collectors and tanks. Since the tanks are also
connected to electricity, it is almost guaranteed hot baths and showers for
the girls now! What a pleasant change.

Piano Recital

Wednesday, March 28th, was a special day for the piano students. Each student had an opportunity to perform in front of the whole school. They were a bit nervous, but all did very well!

Birthday Party from the Wild West

Last week at Sakeji we had the birthday party, to celebrate all the birthdays that term. The theme was the wild west. We had birthday cakes that corresponded to the western front with cowboys, Indians, buffalo, guitars, and even a little settler village.

What a queen!

You can just imagine all the exclamations when we uncovered the Queen of the Termites, whose only function is to produced thousands of termites to eat our papers, books, doors, cupboards, and anything else made out of wood in the dorm. There are a lot fewer problems with her removed, thankfully.

The New Pool

Do you remember the pool at Sakeji? Well, there were so many cracks, it didn’t hold water any longer. It took us about a year and a half to build the new one, but here it is. Would you like a swim?

The New Pool

We enjoyed a refreshing swim with the seniors yesterday, on a hot and sunny afternoon. Bring back memories?
